Australian Gold Sovereigns – History and Mintage - Besides being minted in Britain, Gold Sovereigns have been made in Australia (Melbourne, Sydney, Perth) between 1871 and 1931. The Australian coins carry a small mintmark ('S','M','P) just above the date to represent Sydney Mint, Melbourne Mint and Perth Mint.

1866 Gold Sovereign – Victoria - You can see the die number on the reverse in the space below the wreath (on this coin die is number 45). SCBC: 3853. There is a variant with an overdate of 6/5.

1839 Gold Sovereign Proof - 1839 Gold Sovereign Proof minted by the Royal Mint in London. First (Small) Head by William Wyon. Some variations but all 1839 proofs are expensive.

2020 Gold Sovereign Proof with George III Royal Cypher - The coin carries a special George III royal cypher mint mark on the left of the date to mark the 200th anniversary of the end of George III's reign.

1915 Gold Sovereign – London – George V - King George V’s portrait by Bertram Mackennal can be seen on the obverse of the coin. 20,295,280 sovereigns were struck in London in 1915.

1900 Gold Sovereign Melbourne - 1900 Gold Sovereign Melbourne Mint, shows Queen Victoria’s Old head (also known as the Widow head or Veiled head), designed by Thomas Brock RA.

2020 Gold Sovereign BU – Elizabeth II - The 2020 Gold Sovereign BU is an improved strike on the bullion version, but not quite as good as a proof version. Carries the George III royal cypher mint mark.

1908 Gold Sovereign Perth - A small 'P' above the date indicates the sovereign was produced in Perth, Western Australia.
