Wicked, or to give its full title of 'Wicked: The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz' was written by Stephen Schwartz (both music and lyrics) with a book by Winnie Holzman. The musical is loosely based on L. Frank Baum's classic book 'The Wizard of Oz'.
