The 2023 Two Pounds - Ada LovelaceAda Lovelace (1815-1852), The Countess of Lovelace, is considered by many as the first computer programmer, despite living many years before the first electronic computers as we know of today. She was the daughter of Lord and Lady Byron.
Ada was a gifted mathematician and worked with Charles Babbage on his Analytical Engine. Although most experiments were theoretical (the computer was never built), Ada was able to visualise what could be possible with computing and realised that they may become more than just 'number crunching' machines. She sadly died of cancer aged only 36.
This coin is part of the Royal Mint's Innovation in Science series. It was released in July 2023 and available in BU, Silver Proof and Gold Proof. These coins are available (subject to stock) from the Royal Mint Shop..
