The 2023 Flying Scotsman £2 Silver ProofThe Flying Scotsman is probably the World's most famous steam locomotive. From 1924 it ran the London to Edinburgh passenger service managing the 393 miles in a travel time of 8-10 hours and became the first steam locomotive to reach 100mph. It had a top speed for 125 mph (201 kmh). You can see it today in the National Railway Museum in York.
The coin is released as BU, BU Colour, Silver Proof, Silver Proof Piedfort and Gold Proof.
The Reverse shows the famous steam train, with the centenary of its first appearance '1923-2023'. The engine number was LNER 4472. The original design was by John Bergdahl and the colour artwork was by Ffion Gwillim.
Edge inscription is 'LIVE FOR THE JOURNEY'.
