The 1897 Crown LXI - VictoriaThe 1897 Crown coin (5 shillings) was minted at the Royal Mint and shows the veiled (old head) bust of Queen Victoria. A large coin (38.61mm) and very popular to collect. Although being 92.5% silver, the 1897 Crown is still available at a reasonable price.
Specification: Silver (.925) Crown of Queen Victoria minted in 1897. Diameter 38.61mm and weighs 28.28g. SCBC: 3937. Design was used 1893-1901.
The Reverse shows St George and the Dragon by Benedetto Pistrucci.

The Obverse shows the Old Head (Veiled Head) portrait of Queen Victoria by Sir Thomas Brock.
Edge inscribed with the Regnal date of "ANNO REGNI LXI" representing the 61st year of Victoria's reign. There is also a 1897 Crown with LX which has a similar value.
