1691 Guinea – William and Mary

1691 Guinea William and Mary Obverse

The 1691 Guinea - William and Mary

The Reverse shows a crowned quartered shield of arms, with a lion in the center.

The Guinea started the reign of William and Mary valued at 21 shillings and 6 pence, but towards the end of the reign the value had risen to nearly 30 shillings.

The Obverse shows the conjoined bust of William and Mary.

On some 1691 guineas there is a small elephant and castle logo below the bust; this indicates that the gold came from the Africa Company. These are priced only slightly above the ones without the logo.
