Tanner
Colloquial term for a British sixpence.
Tin
Metal. Chemical symbol Sn. Most often used in alloys such as bronze, but has been used in its pure form in coins too.
Token
A coin intended to spend but not an official issue. Common is Britain during the 18th and 19th Century but also used by other countries.
Tower Mint
While the Royal Mint can find its origins dating back to 886AD and King Alfred the Great, during the period 1279-1812 it was generally referred to as The Tower Mint as it was housed at the Tower of London. See our article The Tower Mint, London 1279-1812.
Trade Dollar
USA silver coin created for trade use with China and the Orient. Minted 1873-1878.
Tribute Penny
Denarius of Emperor Tiberius, widely collected as it is the 'Tribute Penny' described in the Bible as the coin shown to Jesus. See The 14AD-37AD Denarius - Tiberius.
Triens
A Roman coin, equivalent to 30 Denarii.
Troy Ounce
Unit of weight. The troy ounce is the equivalent of 31.1034768 grams. Different from the avoirdupois ounce.
Truncation
On a portrait, the line at which the bust is 'cut off'.
Turner
Copper coin of James VI of Scotland.
