7BC As – Augustus

7BC As Augustus Obverse MV.jpg

The 7BC As - Augustus

Copper As of Emperor Augustus. Struck by moneyer P. Lurius Agrippa at the Rome Mint around 7BC. The IIIviri monetales with Agrippa were M. Maecilius Tullus and M. Salvius Otho. DIameter 27mm, weighs 11.2g.

The Obverse shows the bare head of Emperor Augustus facing left. Legend "[CAES]AR AVGVST . PONT MAX [TRIBVNIC POT]".

The Reverse shows "SC" in the centre of the legend "P. LVRIVS . AGRI[PA IIIVIR . A.A].A.F.F.". SC means senatus consultum, or 'by decree of the Senate' so the coin was an official issue.
