The 2020 White Lion of Mortimer £5 BUPart of the Queen's Beasts collection. Each coin image will represent one of the heraldic Queen's Beasts statues present at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The set comprises of The Lion of England, Unicorn of Scotland, Red Dragon of Wales, Black Bull of Clarence, Falcon of the Plantagenets, Yale of Beaufort, White Lion of Mortimer, White Horse of Hanover, White Greyhound of Richmond, and Griffin of Edward III.
The Reverse, by Jody Clark (who designed both sides of the coin), shows the White Lion of Mortimer standing by a shield.
The shield has a white rose of the House of York on top of a shining Sun, as this beast comes from Edward IV, the first of the Yorkist kings.
The Obverse shows a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark.Image credit: The Royal Mint
