The 1996 One Pound Coin - Celtic Cross and TorcThe Reverse is a Celtic Cross with a Pimpernel Flower in the centre surrounded by an ancient Torc representing Northern Ireland. Some describe it as a Celtic cross, Broighter collar and pimpernel. The design, by Norman Sillman, was used in 1996 and 2001.
The Obverse is the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf.
The Edge Inscription is DECUS ET TUTAMEN which means 'An ornament and a safeguard'.
