Only Proof Gold Sovereigns were issued in 1993, no bullion sovereigns.Benedetto Pistrucci's famous portrayal of St. George slaying the dragon is depicted on the reverse of the coin.

The sovereign is made of solid 22 carat gold (Gold Fineness of 0.916), and weighs 7.98 grams. It has a diameter of 22.05mm.
