The 1670 Crown - Charles II (Second Bust)After the execution of Charles I in 1649, rule passed to the Commonwealth and later the Protectorate under Oliver Cromwell. Charles II was exiled in Europe after his defeat at the Battle of Worcester in 1651. Charles returned in 1660 and the British monarchy was restored.
The Obverse shows the second bust of Charles II.The coin is one of the first examples of mill striking as production moved from traditional hammer struck coins. It is made in .925 Sterling Silver.
